Masters of Arts in Teaching Middle Level
The Master of Arts in Teaching Middle Level (MAT-M) requires 36 semester hours of graduate coursework and successful completion of a comprehensive written examination. The MAT-M program is completely online and is designed for individuals who have a bachelor's degree in a non-education field who wish to teach grades four through eight. Students who begin the program in the spring are eligible to begin teaching int he fall, and scholarships and mentoring are available.

Masters of Arts in Teaching Secondary
The Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary (MAT-S) requires 36 semester hours of graduate coursework beyond the bachelor’s degree and successful completion of a comprehensive written examination. The MAT-S program is designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than education who wish to enter the teaching profession through the alternate route. The MAT-S qualifies individuals for licensure in a secondary teaching field. Program graduates are eligible to be recommended for the Class AA Mississippi Educator Alternate Route License. This degree program is offered through The Center for Distance Education as a hybrid online program.
